It is a routine practice at this surgery that all instruments used during any procedure are either single use disposable instruments or autoclaved on site.

Reconstructive surgery is aimed at restoring abnormal structures of the body for the purpose of giving a more normal appearance or to improve or restore function. These abnormalities may be caused by birth defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, cancer or other diseases.

Examples of reconstructive surgery procedures performed by Dr Buckland include:

Breast reconstruction - usually performed after mastectomy for breast cancer. Reconstruction can be achieved with an implant, by using the woman’s own tissue or a combination of both. Dr Buckland works closely with breast cancer surgeons and has extensive experience in all the techniques available. In many cases breast reconstruction can be performed at the time of mastectomy. This will depend on underlying factors related to the breast cancer and will need to be discussed with your breast surgeon.

Congenital breast problems - such as asymmetry, underdevelopment or inverted nipples

Skin flaps and grafting after skin loss due to injury, surgery, infection or burns

Hand injuries - including microsurgery to nerves and tendons to restore function

Microsurgical free tissue transfer to repair head and neck cancers, lower limb trauma

Scar revision

Each problem is unique and a lot depends on your individual circumstances.
